GermanyArina Dähnick (born 1965) is a Berlin-based photo artist specializing in architecture, interior design, object design, and urban space. Growing up in a creative family, she discovered art and photography early, holding her first exhibition at 17. After a long hiatus, she relaunched her career in 2014, featured on the Leica Camera Blog. Since then, she has had 16 solo and 2 group exhibitions, with projects like Perfect Life, Contemporary Architecture Barcelona, and The MIES Project gaining recognition in publications such as Tectonica, Metalocus, The Plan, Photonews, and LFI International.
The MIES Project debuted in Berlin at Atelier André Kirchner in 2019, followed by its U.S. premiere at the Farnsworth House Gallery. It was later exhibited at the Goethe-Institut Chicago for Bauhaus 100, then at S.R. Crown Hall during the Chicago Architecture Biennial, with 60 large-format prints. The project returned to Europe in 2020, appearing at Villa Tugendhat, Caixa Forum, and the Barcelona Pavilion. In 2021, it was displayed at Guardini Gallery, Berlin, for the reopening of the Neue Nationalgalerie. The accompanying book, published by DCV-books, won silver in the 2019 German Photo Book Award for conceptual-artistic work.
Currently, Dähnick is working on Exploring ZAHA Hadid and Living with MIES, a project about life within Mies van der Rohe’s architecture.
Doris Hansmann, editor-in-chief at DCV-books, praises Dähnick’s approach: using a Leica M rangefinder—unusual for architecture—she manually controls aperture, exposure, and focus, avoiding post-processing. Her work explores city life, reflections, and spatial experiences, capturing the soul of architecture through color and lines. By blending perspectives, she creates a poetic interplay between outer reality and inner imagination.
