Katharina Giglio Portela

Brazil
Katharina is a multipotential artist who honors, venerates, and elevates the simplicity and beauty of everyday details. Born in the ABC region of São Paulo and raised in (by) the city of São Paulo, she moves fluidly between the realms of writing, photography, music and sculpture. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations from Faculdade Cásper Líbero and is currently a postgraduate student and researcher in Cultural Anthropology at PUCPR. Since 2019, she has been registering on film what her eyes fall in love with. In photography, the handling of analog technique is not merely a medium, but an expression of her beliefs and purpose: to reclaim the value of physical memories in an increasingly ephemeral and virtual world — to linger the gaze where it does not grow tired. With her camera–time machine, she proposes to stir the collective imagination by honoring the banal. She says she invokes a prayer so that her enchantment with the most ordinary of days may be preserved. To capture the essence of the fleeting and to serve the ordinary as something worthy of admiration. “Brazilian to the core, I praise our art, culture, history and people. I love Brazil fiercely and paint myself as hopeless (in theory), hopeful (in practice).” — @katharinagiglio
