I have never worked as a professional photographer, despite having been taking photographs for four decades. When I was 18, I took a basic photography course at the art workshop in my home town, even before I owned my own camera. Ever since then, I have always felt the need to control the entire photographic process, from the moment the image is captured to the final print, in both analogue and digital formats. In learning and developing my darkroom techniques, I have been helped by the books and writings of the great masters of analogue photography, such as Ansel Adams or Sandy King, amongst others. This learning process has gradually led me to explore new formats; I started out photographing with a 35mm camera, then moved on to medium format (6×7), later to 4×5 and finally to 8×10. I was motivated, above all, by traditional photographic processes such as kalitype and platinum/palladium, which involved contact printing and required larger negatives. In short, my evolution has gone from analogue shooting and analogue printing; then to analogue shooting and digital printing; and, finally, to digital shooting and digital printing. In the first two stages, the photographs were black and white, which I developed at home. And in this second stage, I began producing digital prints using the technique developed by Jon Cone: Piezography. I used small-format Epson R2400 and 4000 printers, with inks patented and marketed by Jon Cone. Finally, I have only just embarked on this new phase, in which the entire process is digital. I use a Fujifilm medium-format digital camera and a Canon 2100 large-format digital printer, with original inks, to deliver a high-quality product that will stand the test of time.
