Michael Connell Photography is an independent fine-art photography and archival printmaking practice exploring the relationship between structure, light, atmosphere and natural geography. The work ranges from the landscapes of North West Scotland and the American landscape to architecture, industry and the geometry of cities. Connell was trained in manual film photography and traditional darkroom practice and later worked with technical 5×4 and 10×8 view cameras. That background continues to shape a deliberate approach to composition, exposure, perspective and printmaking. The physical print is regarded as the finished artwork. Limited editions are developed slowly through selection, proofing and print evaluation rather than to a timetable, with photographs released only when they belong within the visual language and integrity of a collection. Across subjects and decades, the underlying concerns remain consistent: structure, atmosphere, scale, colour and the transformation of physical forms by light.
