Looking straight up the mainmast, the rigging converges to a single point of sky. The eye follows the lines the way the ship was meant to be read — from the deck upward, along the ropes that held it together.
The ground was worked by hand until the surface aged around the image: a weathered field of grey and ochre in which the black rigging sits like ink on stone. The photograph remains, but the object has been given a century it never lived through.
