In der Mark Brandenburg findet man eine einzigartige Landschaft, die das Luchland genannt wird. Sie ist geprägt durch die Schmelzwasserwege der letzten Eiszeit. Charakteristisch für diese Landschaft sind die großen Flachwasserseen, ausgedehnte Feuchtgebiete und Moore. Insbesondere im Frühjahr werden durch das Hochwasser der Flüsse Dosse, Rhin und Havel große Flächen überflutet, einzelne Teile treten als Inseln hervor. Weiden, Erlen und Birkenbüsche werden umspült und spiegeln sich im Wasser.
