The landscape of Damaraland, Namibia, unfolds in broad horizontal layers. Scrubby foreground vegetation gives way to a thin line of green, dark maroon and rust-colored rock, and distant slopes of dusty rose and ochre. With no single dominant subject, the painting becomes an observation of distance itself, expressed through changing bands of land and color. Created as part of my ongoing 365 Days of Travel Watercolors project.
