Dead camel thorn trees stand against the pale clay pan and immense red dunes of Deadvlei, Namibia. The extreme dryness has preserved these trees long after their source of water disappeared. In this small watercolor, the complicated cracks, branches and weathered surfaces of the foreground tree are reduced to simpler shapes and marks, exploring what remains when detail is removed and time seems to hold something in place.
