Part of my ongoing 365-day watercolor project, this painting depicts a small desert plant emerging from a narrow crack in the rock of Israel's Negev Desert. I was drawn to the contrast between the apparent permanence of the stone and the quiet persistence of the life it supports. The plant itself is modest, but the opening that allows it to exist transforms the wall from an obstacle into a refuge. Sometimes the smallest opportunity makes everything else possible.
